Artists' collectives are becoming a driving force in the art field. They activate new spaces for artistic practice and presentation. They design newly emerging formats, from neighborhood art projects to large-scale biennials. In their practice, the artists question established notions of art as well as hegemonic circumscriptions of locality. This book is the result of many years of work with contemporary artists in Nepal and Bangladesh. It takes an actor-centered approach to decipher the notions of contemporaneity and collectivity . This focus on collaborative art practices combined with a multiscalar and translocal perspective challenges us to rethink the use of terms that often transport hierarchies, such as city, region, or globality.

This new publication is the 10th volume of the series "Heidelberg Studies on Transculturality".
